ENVIRONMENT ARTIST

Fabrik Games has an opportunity for a passionate and skilled Environment Artist to join our team and work on an exciting AAA sci-fi/horror project. As an Environment Artist, you will work closely with the Art Director, Art Lead, and other artists in a collaborative environment to create a visually stunning yet believable world. The ideal candidate is someone who has a strong desire to contribute and grow, has a flair for creating high-quality props and environment assets, and enjoys teamwork but can also take direction and work independently. As an Environment Artist, you will use your expertise in art principles and computer packages to be capable of creating high-quality original artwork that often displays innovative solutions when answering briefs. You will be able to collaborate on high-level creative direction and estimate, and execute relevant level-of-detail artwork, depending on the stage of the creative process. You will be able to help mentor more junior artists and work collaboratively across the team to ensure the best possible ideas are professionally presented and realised in-game. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in creating visually stunning props and environment assets to populate the game

  • Model, unwrap, and texture 3D assets for Unreal Engine 4

  • Assist in the validation and optimization of assets

  • Ability to set dress areas with stories and believability

  • Responsible for assets follow the given art direction and are within the agreed production deadlines and conform to the required technical specifications

  • Document art processes and establish a good working practice

  • Collaborate and communicate daily and weekly during review sessions and meetings

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good proficiency in all aspects of 3D packages such as Max/Maya/Modo and Zbrush

  • Excellent texturing skills in both Photoshop and Substance Painter

  • Thorough knowledge of PBR workflows in Substance painter/designer Quixel mixer or similar

  • Experience using current-generation game engines (e.g. UE4/Unity)

  • A portfolio demonstrating awesome prop/environment modelling and texturing techniques, both high and low poly

  • An understanding of realtime and baked lighting solutions

  • Good proven record of world and set dressing

  • Open and collaborative communication skills both verbal and written

  • Proven ability to keep Leads and Creative Directors informed of progress and developments.

  • Should have at least 2 years’ industry experience in a similar position

  • A passion and hunger to make the best games.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working in VR

  • Experience with game lighting techniques and implementation

  • Basic understanding of character modelling

  • A good understanding of VFX creation
